3 Simple Gardening Tips

Many people picture having lovely gardens, but they don't often like the image of spending every spare moment they have tending to plants, lawns or garden beds just to keep them looking great.

However, as one carefully prepares and makes use of the right instruments, they will realize that it isn't too difficult to make a flower bed that is beautiful. Also, provided you do it correctly, it won't take that much care to continue making it look good.

Your first tip is to discover the right combination of nutrients that your plant will require. This is not to say that you need to spend big dollars on expensive nutrients for your garden. In fact, the easiest way to get your soil ready for your garden each year is to add compost to the dirt before planting. Compost is an assortment of organic things like lettuce, celery, and even the leaves in your front lawn. You Can get it a couple of ways including making it yourself and also going to the store and buying it in a bag. Whether you use a composting bin, or simply create an ordinary compost pile, you can create quite a bit of this material over a couple month period. Your garden will be very nutrient rich as long as you use organic matter that is well rotted as it will provide the best nutrients for the soil. All you have to do now is take the compost, mix it into the soil, and you're ready to plant. This will enrich the soil and benefit any plants you put there for months to come. Bugs, snails, slugs, and various other pests have always plagued the home gardener. They love your tender young plants as much as you do. To get rid of your "critters" you may think the solution is to use a chemical pesticide. But, be advised, they are expensive and hazardous - especially to kids and domestic animals. Instead, consider making your own bug repellents that can usually be made from simple household products and cost far less, as well as being organic. An organic remedy that works like a charm to protect your baby plants from snails and slugs is to bury a container or can in the soil next to the plants they like to eat. After you have dug in your container, fill it part way with beer or cook up a mixture of honey, yeast, and water and put that in the container. This will attract the slugs so they fall in, but they can't get back out again. Aphids are another common problem that can be solved easily by making a spray mixture using 1 tablespoon of cheap liquid dishwasher soap with a gallon of water. Use it indoors or outdoors with great success. Keep a spray bottle filled with this mixture close by and, when you see an infestation of aphids, spray the leaves. The aphids will quickly vanish. This is great for houseplants, as well.

Seasonal plants can create an amazingly beautiful feature within any garden. The only problem with these types of plants is that they only live for a short amount of time and therefore require a little extra maintenance. Most gardens will improve dramatically by adding annual flowers to the mix. Although very pretty during the spring and summer, these flowers are very sensitive to cold and therefore must be removed before the first frost. Other things to consider include vegetables which are seasonal, and may only be planted and grown in certain seasons. If you choose to use seasonal plants, be sure to check the correct times to plant them so they aren't affected by the weather.

Developing a garden can be tricky, and these tips should help you avoid some common mistakes. Hopefully these tips will help you get through some roadblocks you may have encountered while trying to grow garden in your particular region of the world.

What a wonderful day! It’s early summer and not a single cloud in the sky. You climb over a log that has fallen across the trail and wait for your 10 year old son to catch up.A quick, upward glance at the sunlight filtering through the canopy of trees signals that it’s about time to head back to camp. The crisp, pungent smell of the forest floor reminds you how much you needed this family vacation. You can almost smell the trout that you and Billy caught early this morning frying in the pan over the open fire. Just as your stomach begins to rumble in anticipation, you hear a scream.Your head snaps around and you can see Billy just a few yards down the trail, his arms flapping wildly around his head. Back over the log you jump, and running reach him in just seconds.Billy has upset one very angry wasp. Whipping off your cap, you swat it away and while it’s stunned lying on the ground you send the nasty critter off to meet his insect brothers in the great beyond.Quick examination shows that Billy has been bitten repeatedly by the wasp and is in some serious pain. No medicine cabinet and no drugstore for miles. Your emergency medical kit is back at camp.Eyes darting around the ground near the trail, you spot just what you need. Grabbing a handful of leaves from what looks like a weed, you toss a few in your mouth and chew them quickly. You apply the poultice to the red welts appearing on Billy’s arms and face. Almost as quickly as his screams began, Billy stops crying. Wiping away his tears with the back of his hand, he manages a crooked grin and a sheepish, “thanks Dad.”Disaster averted. As you and Billy begin the hike back to camp, you remember that book you purchased online about herbal remedies and acknowledge it was money well spent! There are thousands of plants that can treat just as many

New - Some 31 million people in the UK now pay income tax - more than GBP 110 billion in total - and the number paying higher-rate tax has increased by nearly a half in just five years.
